Investor Session 2008
27th November 2008
9.30-17.30
University of Padova - Italy
Introduction
The fourth edition of
Nanochallenge and Polymerchallenge 2008
, an International business plan competition on nanotechnology and polymer-based materials, has selected 14 finalist teams among the 40 start-up projects received.
Veneto Nanotech
, Italian Cluster of Nanotechnology, and
IMAST
Technological District on Polymeric and Composite Materials Engineering and Structures, have organized the 2008 edition of the competition with two Grand Prizes of € 300.000 each. The event is supported by Fondazione Cassa Di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, Veneto Sviluppo, Regione Veneto, Regione Campania.
Nanochallenge and Polymerchallenge 2008 is sponsored by: Alenia Areonautica, Basf, Bracco Imaging, Carel, Dainese, Eurotech, Gear Wolrd, Lux Research, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Investor Session
November 27th 2008
During the
Nanochallenge and Polymerchallenge
Final Contest, to be held at the University of Padova, the Italian Cluster for Nanotechnology has organized an
Investor Session
, an open doors day dedicated to investors and business people. They will have the possibility to meet face to face the 14 International start-ups and discuss about funding and partnerships.
The event will gather top scientists in the nanotechnology field, international public and private investors and entrepreneurs. Each team will have a slot of 20 minutes to present his innovative and business plan. In the adjacent room, the start-up teams will be available to talk in 1to1 meetings with people interested in understanding the technology and their business project.
The
Investor Session
represents a networking event where venture capitalists, corporations, entrepreneurs and business people can identify the most promising technologies and business opportunities in the nanotechnology and polymer-based materials sector.

Finalist Teams
Nanotechnology
ADESSO BIOSCIENCE
Real-time, single-molecule, label-free detection of SNPs, STRs and protein binding for use in personalized medicine.
Advantageous Systems LLC
Minimally invasive diagnostic device without needles or pinpricks for blood tests and for the indication of bacterial and viral infections, immunological deficiencies, and proper regulation of glucose as well as detection of other molecules, or analytes, found in blood.
Bio-Nanomagnetite
Breakthrough technique in the wastewater treatment with the use of bio-nanomagnetite. Benefits are high process rate, small land requirements, lower consumable materials demand and the removal of the overall impurities in one single treatment step.
Cellectron NanoWare
Innovative and cheap bio-nano-sensor for antidoping and food&quality markets. Device able to detect in real time a wide range of doping drugs. It detects the biological effects rather than the single substance, acting as a screening of first level.
NanoThread Inc.
Developing products based on a revolutionary new process for the synthesis of ultralong (meters and longer) continuous carbon nanotubes (cCNTs). The unique properties of cCNTs will yield products will superior characteristics compared to those currently available.
PROLABIN & TEFARM
Development and production of non conventional, often biocompatible, layered inorganic and inorganic-organic fillers and additives in the form of micro and nano powders loaded with species required to offer the characteristics above.
ROLITH
Rolith, Inc. has developed a new concept of high throughput optical nanolithography for the fabrication of complex nanostructures on large areas of substrate materials.
ThunderNIL
High throughput and high resolution patterning technology (belonging to the family of thermal NIL processes) based on a new type of stamps with integrated heater element. This technology could reach unprecedented levels of productivity
VINCI
New technology for production of reactants useful in weather control as anti-hail protection, for the dispersion of cold fogs and for the stimulation of precipitation. Sectors with a direct benefit of this technology are: agriculture, traffic (land and air), tourism and water management.
Polymer-based materials category
CHISMATECH
Novel technology for components of the auxetic type, in particular for uses as structural core composite materials based on some novel chiral non-centresymmetric topologies. The materials developed will be used in sandwich applications for the civil, naval, aerospace constructions.
M.I.T.E.S. srl
Production of polymeric materials containing codified and decoding information named DIPM (decoding informative plastic materials) for information traceability encryption and security.
Q-Pack
Novel food packaging materials having an active role regarding product preservation and shelf-life extension, by achieving the optimal conditions of storage. The technology guarantees a good level of dispersion and distribution of the filler inside the matrix.
RALOS
The technology will bind fashion to electronic technology by producing innovative polymer based photovoltaic cells, characterized by flexibility, lightness and low cost, to be integrated in clothes
Silvertech
Production of novel engineered textiles through silver nanoparticles deposition, with unique antibacterial properties, for a number of applications, based both on natural and synthetic fibers
